Founder, Guts Like a Girl
Sam has completed multiple half marathons, marathons, RAGNARS (regular and ultras), ultra-marathons, is an avid climber and thru-hiker, motorcyclist, and will travel anywhere for an adventure. Sam has an undergraduate degree in Sociology from Point Loma Nazarene University, a Master’s degree in Homeland Security from San Diego State University (Go Aztecs), and a Master’s Degree in Social Work/Policy from Columbia University. By day, Sam is a practicing Social Worker, and by night, obsessed with HGTV and the Food Network. More than anything Sam loves her family and girlfriends for the joy they have brought to her life and adores her awesome husband. Sam lives in San Diego, CA, with her main squeeze, Jeff, and dog, Denali, and yes this amazing pit is her favorite lady.
Shannon grew up in sunny Southern California with an active family that regularly took her and her sister swimming, hiking, and camping. You could usually find Shannon playing outside, something that is still true for her today. Shannon Studied Human Behavior and received her BS in Criminal Justice from Remington College. Her career in social services led her to her passion for running when she moved to Las Vegas, Nevada, for a job in Wilderness Therapy. Since then she has run multiple half marathons, obstacle courses/mud runs, marathons, and ultra-marathons. Shannon currently lives in Rena, Nevada where she works for Desert Sky Adventures, a race management company.
